Aloha! The Town of Hoosick Summer Day Campers had a blast as they completed Session 2, Hawaiian Week.

The campers have enjoyed daily arts and crafts, which have included volcano constructing, grass-skirt making, tiki-hut building, and pasta-jewelry painting. The campers learned Hawaiian words and their meanings, such as aloha (hello, goodbye, and love) mahalo (thank you), and o'hana (family).

They were taught different aspects of Hawaiian culture throughout the week and finished with their very own luau (Hawaiian party). Festivities at the luau included hula dancing, volcano erupting, fresh-fruit eating, and limbo contesting.

Also, the Hoosick Falls Fire Department set up a "misting waterfall system" with their equipment for the kids to enjoy! Wednesday was spent at Grafton Lakes State Park, where the kids enjoyed a beautiful day of swimming, hiking, and a thrilling sand castle building contest.

Next week is Nature Week and the campers will enjoy several nature themed arts-and-crafts projects, games, and walks. They will also learn the importance of recycling and what it means to treat nature well!
