HAYC3 to Sponsor 6th Annual Community Walk for Suicide Prevention

Hoosick Falls, NY—Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teens and young adults in the United States-and even the community of Hoosick is not immune to such tragedy. 

Hoosick’s annual Suicide Prevention Walk not only gives the community the opportunity to give a communal hug to families and friends who are heartbroken from the loss of a loved one by suicide, but it reminds community members that they matter!  It reminds the community that they always come together to support one another; this walk emphasizes that there is always hope.

This year’s walk will take place on Sunday, May 1, 2016 and steps off at 6:00pm from the north end entrance of the Hoosic River Greenway.  Walkers will take in the tranquility and beauty of the greenway with their Hoosick neighbors and be reminded we can always lean on one another even on the darkest days.  A mile into the walk, luminaries will be lit with words of encouragement to shine light on the darkness of suicide.  Walkers can continue on the trail or return to the starting point with the renewed knowledge that suicide prevention starts with everyday heroes like them!
