Wood Block Open House and Third Annual Farm to Canvas Art Lottery

CiviCure (Civic and Cultural Restoration) of Hoosick Falls, celebrates its acquisition of the Village’s historic Wood Block building with an Open House on Saturday, October 28 at 1-5 Main Street in Hoosick Falls from 2 - 4:30. At 6 pm that evening the third annual Farm to Canvas art lottery which will benefit the restoration of Wood Block will take place in the waterside Walloomsac Taproom of Brown’s Brewing Company in Hoosick Falls. CiviCure will renovate the currently vacant second and third floors of Wood Block with gallery and performance spaces in its mission to use art and cultural events to build ties and promote economic revitalization in the community and throughout the region.

The Open House is the first opportunity for the public to see the magnificent performance hall spaces on the third floor of the block-long brick building since CiviCure purchased it in April 2017. These extraordinary, high-ceilinged rooms gave the building its original name of Wood’s Block Opera House. A reception featuring locally produced food and beverages will be held in the paneled meeting room on the second floor.

The second and third floors of Wood Block do not have universal access at this time, but a first floor gallery will be open. The addition of an elevator will be part of a long-range planning and fundraising effort to be undertaken by CiviCure in the coming months.

Saturday evening’s third annual Farm to Canvas art lottery at the 50 Factory Hill Road location of Brown’s Walloomsac Taproom will feature a selection of work by regional artists including a group who will paint en plein air, a French term for painting outdoors in the open air. These panels will feature the Walloomsac River and its environs.

Participating artists have the opportunity to paint from an unrivaled viewpoint on the bridge above the falls at Brown’s Brewery. The bridge is only accessible from inside their building. In addition to these panels, there will be a carefully curated selection of art works donated from private and corporate collections.

The Farm to Canvas lottery is a drawing where every ticket holder selects a work of art to take home from this generous ensemble of donors. To accompany Farm to Canvas, Brown’s Brewing will create a delicious farm to table menu (available at a separate price from lottery event tickets).

Individual Farm to Canvas attendees may purchase one ticket ($48) for the art lottery on that evening only, beginning at 6 pm. Each ticket allows the purchaser to choose a work when their number is drawn at random beginning at 7 pm. The number of participating artists will determine the number of art lottery tickets sold. Farm to Canvas artworks may be previewed in Brown’s Walloomsac Taproom beginning on October 25.

CiviCure is a cultural non-profit organization with the mission of supporting the revitalization of the Hoosick economy through active stewardship of the community’s rich heritage and rural environs and the art inspired by them.
