There are some big plans in the works! Those who keep an eye on our Facebook page might have noticed a tantalizing post. Staff from the Bureau of Historic Sites was recently at the Bennington Museum studying their cannon, captured in the battle. We are pleased to inform our newsletter subscribers that we are working to create a replica of the hilltop 3-pounder Verbruggen cannon for display at the battlefield! We hope to unveil the cannon in grand fashion and to properly thank our generous donor when it is completed.

Secondly, our thanks to Jonah Spivak who is already looking forward to Vermont’s 250th celebration of its independence and constitution. The plan is to make the Battle of Bennington's 250th anniversary one for the books as well, and to that end he has approached the Vermont State Legislature to get the ball rolling. The year 2027 is closer than you think!

It is also worth celebrating a grant which will fund Battle of Bennington curriculum for MAUMS students. As part of the course students will visit the battlefield. It is hoped that the lesson will be widely adopted by other schools once developed.

Heidi Miksch, objects conservator, sizes up the Bennington trophy cannon held by the Museum.
Visitors with the Bennington Chamber of Commerce at the Statehouse in Montpelier are greeted by the Lieutenant Governor Zuckerman.
Take a look at our current calendar of events. Please note that April will be a slow month for programming (but a busy month for other projects that will benefit our visitors when we open in May).
