We are pleased to announce that we have completed a small reconstruction of the corner of the Dragoon breastworks on "Hessian" hill. If you haven't been to the battlefield for a while, now is a great time to revisit the site and get a closer view of what would have greeted Nochols' men as they pressed their attack.

May was a wonderful month here for school outreach. It is often remarked that students should be learning more about the battle, and thanks to a Local Heritage Grant from the Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership, students at Mount Anthony Union Middle School got the opportunity to do just that. They dedicated an entire unit to the battle and came out for a visit to the battlefield supported by volunteers from the Friends of Bennington Battlefield. You can read more about it in an article in the Bennington Banner.

Middle schoolers from the Hoosick Falls Central School District also visited, continuing a tradition that has kept the history of the battle alive locally. High schoolers also came by and pitched in to help us beautify the site.

Finally, we would like to highlight some of our upcoming events. If some of the classic Hollywood movies about the Revolutionary War are not your thing, consider coming out tomorrow at 6:00 PM to 30 Caretakers Road for a screening of a modern popular movie. Later in the month, we are pleased to announce that on June 16, 11:00 AM we will be welcoming Michael Gabriel, author of The Battle of Bennington: Soldiers & Civilians. He will be discussing the concept of loot and how it ties into the aftermath of the battle. Don't miss this talk!

"Under the command and direction of Capt. Fraser, the Tories and several Englishmen had to lay out a small fortification of thick trees on our left flank. The Squadron of Major General v. Riedesel occupied this..."

As always, there is plenty going to do at the site. Watch for updates to this calendar in future e-mails or on our Facebook page.
