The Friends of the Bennington Battlefield and students from Hoosick march in the Battle Weekend parade in downtown Bennington. This was the first time the organization has marched!

Here's to a successful Battle Weekend!

We marked the 242nd anniversary of the Battle of Bennington with our annual commemoration. We were honored by the presence of Assemblyman Jake Ashby, representing NY's 107th assembly district as well as Heather Mabee, Chair of the NYS Parks Saratoga/Capital District Regional Commission. We were pleased to welcome for the second year students in Hoosick's Summer History Institute. Kudos to local teacher Katie Brownell for getting these kids excited about history! We also extend our thanks to the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield for organizing the event and the 2nd Continental Artillery Regiment for providing the cannon salutes as well as a lesson for the students.  John Sheaff deserves special recognition, as he has done so much over the years to ensure that the 16th has not been forgotten at the battlefield. This year he passed the torch to Friends President Peter Schaaphok.

Representatives from state and local SAR and DAR chapters place wreaths at the August 16th commemoration ceremony in memory of those who fought.
