The Friends of the Bennington Battlefield
PO Box 251
Hoosick Falls, NY 12090

Wow, what a beginning to 2020! The Trustees meetings earlier in the year anticipated a full and exciting year. Plans were progressing at breakneck speed for this year’s Commemoration of the Battle.

A large group of re-enactors are still planning to stage a 2-day re-enactment of the Battle. EagerHoosick Falls CSD 4-6 grade students are still writing their essays hoping to be accepted to the week-long Living History educational program; looking forward to seeing a re-enactment and participating inthe Commemoration Ceremony again. (We are still hopeful that these programs will take place, with possible adjustments for public safety.)

In addition, the new Enhanced Signage Project, partially funded through a grant, is well under way. A special feature of the project will be original paintings by John Wright on three of the signs. The Battlefield will display images of the Battle not found anywhere else! The layouts of the signs are coming together and the sign company is prepared to start production. Our goal from the beginning was to have them installed before August 16, 2020.

The grant we procured for this important addition to the Battlefield was premised upon our raising $1000 toward the cost of the project. We had planned “in person” fund-raising events to obtain the needed funds, but the current necessary “social distancing” guidelines require us to be creative in securing those final dollars.

This is where you can help! First, if you have not renewed your membership, please consider doing so and possibly at a higher level. You can also make a separate donation which will go directly to the Enhanced Interpretation Project. Everyone who makes a specific donation to the signs will be publicly recognized through a donor's plaque at the site. The Commemoration Ceremony this year willbe specially dedicated to Friends member and singular driving force for years, the late John Sheaff, andinclude the unveiling of the new signs. The event's program will list the donors' names.

To renew your membership, you can find the renewal form online in the Winter Newsletter, or contact Joyce Brewer, Treasurer at tjbrewer4942@gmail.com to renew. Any donations for the project should be in the form of a separate check or fund transfer with “Enhanced Signage Project” as a memo. Any donations are tax-deductible, as the Friends is a verified non-profit entity.

Thank you for your continued support of the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield. In doing so,you help us preserve our history and fulfill our mission to educate the public about the importance the Town of Hoosick played in the Revolutionary War.
