Where is David?


Site Assistant David Pitlyk attended Historic Weapons Safety training at Fort McClellan in March. The training is offered by the National Parks Service and is generously opened to state and private organizations with historic weapons programs. See him in the back row? It was a blast!

Untold: Patriots Revealed
Fox Nation was on site to film segments for their series "Untold: Patriots Revealed." Here, historian Eric Schnitzer holds an authentic German broadsword captured in the battle and held in a private collection.

Giving Stark His Due
Here, historical artist Don Troiani and Schnitzer are interviewed. Troiani's work has been featured on interpretive panels at the battlefield. Both of these gentlemen are extremely knowledgeable on the Battle of Bennington. They recently collaborated on the book, Campaign to Saratoga.

Daniel Shays's Honorable Rebellion
In April we welcomed author Daniel Bullen to the site to discuss his recent book on Shays's Rebellion. Bullen refocused the story of the "rebellion" to present the viewpoint of the participants rather than the elites who sought to suppress the popular movement.


April 13
Let the Field Trips Begin!
We welcomed students of Woodland Hill Montessori this month for a pre-season visit. The students drilled the manual of arms and participated in a mock artillery exercise. Special thanks to Pat Niles for his assistance with the program.

May 7, 2:00 PM | I Love My Park Day The battlefield will host volunteers for I Love My Park Day. Participants will be able to choose from a variety of projects to beautify the site. Please register at https://www.ptny.org/events/i-love-my-park-day if you would like to get involved. Rain date: 5/14.

May 14, 11:00 AM | Public Tour Join us for the first public tour of the season! The tour group will gather under the flagpole on the hilltop and then caravan to other points of interest on the battlefield. This program is rain or shine.

May 18, 6:00 PM | Podcast Club Do you want to talk history? Are you short on time? This is the group for you! Every month this group gathers to discuss a piece of recorded media (podcasts, lectures etc.). Contact David Pitlyk for details on the current selection. (david.pitlyk@parks.ny.gov) The program will be held at 30 Caretakers Road, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.

May 25, 6:00 PM | Book Discussion Every month this group gathers to discuss a book related to the Revolutionary War. Contact David Pitlyk for details on the current selection. (david.pitlyk@parks.ny.gov) The program will be held at 166 Main St, Hoosick Falls, NY 12090.

May 27, 3:00 PM | Guided Hike Join us for a walk along Battle Loop trail. This one mile hike is over easy-to-moderate terrain. Comfortable shoes and a water bottle are suggested. The group will meet under the flagpole on the hilltop. The program is cancelled in the event of inclement weather.

May 30, 1:00 PM | Memorial Day Musketry Join site assistant David Pitlyk for a musket demonstration that will be given on the hilltop near the flagpole. The program will last as long as the cartridges do. Patrons are advised to arrive early! The program is cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
