Visitors to the battlefield will notice a new flag being flown in honor of the 100th anniversary of New York State Parks. To mark this milestone for our agency, we have debuted the centennial challenge.

Visitors who complete at least 24 out the 100 listed activities that make up the challenge will earn a prize and the chance to win one of 24 three-year Empire Passes and a Centennial swag bag! More information is available at the link above or in our Information Building.

School Programs Delivered in Vermont

While May is a busy month for field trips, we will sometimes also conduct outreach programs and bring the history to the students instead. We recently joined a team including the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield and staff of the Bennington Museum to bring lessons about the Battle of Bennington to every student in Mount Anthony Union Middle School over the course of a few days. Pictured below are some "artifacts" used in an archaeology presentation.

I Love My Park Day Draws Volunteers

We continue to be blown away by the efforts of volunteers at the battlefield. This year's I Love My Park Day was no exception. Volunteers painted, planted and hacked the site back into shape. It was tiring work (see bottom left), but thanks to all who attended, we'll see you again in 2025!

First Meeting of the NY 250 Commission Held

The New York State 250th Commemoration Commission held it's first public meeting May 15 at the State Museum in Albany. Anyone wishing to view the proceedings may do so here. Pictured bottom right are some of the Parks team in attendance along with 250th Commissioner (and our own Parks Commissioner Pro Tem) Randy Simons. We look forward to a memorable 2026 and beyond.

Hoosick History & Heritage Connects Residents with the Battlefield

This is starting to look like a tradition! This May, the Friends of the Bennington Battlefield held the Hoosick History and Heritage Fair in village armory for the second year in a row. Visitors to the fair, which included lecturers, tablers, musicians and a chicken lunch, were able to take a narrated trolley ride (at no cost) to the battlefield where Parks staff and Friends members put on a series of living history demonstrations. Well done, all!

Weaponry in the Battle of Bennington

Sunday, June 9, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Join interpreter David Pitlyk on the hilltop for an informal discussion of artillery, shoulder arms and edged weapons. Musketry demonstrations performed upon request.

First Day of Summer Guided Hike

Thursday, June 20, 4:00 pm
Join us for a guided hike of Battle Loop Trail to mark the official arrival of summer. The trail covers approximately one mile over moderate terrain. The group will gather under the flagpole on the hilltop. Your guide will cover topics relating to the battle and the forested landscape.

Public Tour of the Battlefield

Friday, June 28, 4:00 pm
Tour the three main areas of interest in the first engagement of the battle. A mix of walking and driving is required. The group will gather under the flagpole on the hilltop.
