BOARDS AND DEPARTMENTS

ASSESSOR

General Information

Description of Services

The Assessor maintains the Town’s assessment roll–the document containing each property assessment. The physical description and value estimate of every parcel is kept current. The property inventory is available for inspection by appointment before the filing of the tentative assessment roll. The Assessor performs many other administrative functions, such as inspecting new construction and major improvements to existing structures. In addition, the Assessor approves and keeps track of property tax exemptions, the most common of which are the senior citizen, School Tax Relief (STAR), veterans, agricultural, and business exemptions.

2024 Town-wide Full Value Reassessment Update Project

As part of the Assessment Equity Update Project, the town’s assessment department has reviewed and analyzed all property assessments.

Maintaining 100% equity has many benefits. Keeping assessments current is a testament to a town’s willingness to keep assessments as equitable as possible. When assessments are analyzed yearly and adjusted accordingly to market fluctuations, discrepancies can be minimized between assessed values and actual market values. This is the major factor in ensuring that the taxes are spread equally amongst taxpayers.

The STAR program has transitioned to

School Tax Relief (STAR) Credit

NEW STAR applicants will receive a credit in the form of a check directly from New York State instead of receiving a school property tax exemption. The amount of your STAR benefit is the same regardless of how you receive it.

If you are already enrolled in the STAR program this will not apply to you. Current Basic and Enhanced STAR recipients will keep their exemptions as long as they continue to own their current homes.

NEW Basic and Enhanced STAR applicants must register with the New York State Tax Department to receive a STAR credit check. Visit www.tax.ny.gov or call (518) 457-2036.

The last day to file for these exemptions is March 1st.
You may contact this office to obtain application forms or use the following links to download them. If you have any further questions regarding eligibility you may contact this office.
